EAST LANSING, MI. — Seven new members will be inducted into the Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame on April 14, 2019, at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center at Michigan State University.

The 2019 inductees are public affairs and investigative journalist Kathy Barks Hoffman, editor and publisher Peter Brown, automotive and business reporter Mary Conway, food writer and restaurant critic Sylvia Rector, reporter and columnist John Schneider, photographer and picture editor Mary Schroeder, city beat reporter and mentor Vickie Thomas.

The Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame was established to recognize those who have advanced the legacy of a free and responsible press and had a positive impact on journalism in Michigan.  Induction memorializes extraordinary and clearly outstanding careers.

MSU’s School of Journalism has been the home of the Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame since 1985, reprising the Michigan Newspaper Hall of Fame, which became dormant in 1968. The Michigan Press Association and the MSU School of Journalism established the original Michigan Newspaper Hall of Fame in 1952.

The Hall of Fame Class of 2019 will be honored at the 34^th annual induction banquet on April 14, beginning with a reception at 5 p.m. Dinner and the induction ceremony will follow at 6 p.m. The date for early reservations is April 1, 2019.

East Lansing, MI– Nominations are now being accepted for the Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame.

Inductees to the Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame must have established their professional reputations through Michigan journalism. Honorees will be inducted at a banquet on Sunday, April 15, 2018, at the Michigan State University Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center.

Nominees are judged on their contributions to Michigan journalism, courage, innovation, leadership, impact and influence on the industry.  They may be living or deceased.  The deadline for nominations is Monday, January 22, 2018.  Completed nomination packets must be received in the School of Journalism office, Michigan State University, 404 Wilson Rd., 305 Com Arts and Sciences Building, East Lansing, MI 48824-1212. They may be emailed to Lubaskar@msu.edu.

Nomination forms are available online at or from Lucinda Davenport, Chair, Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame Committee, School of Journalism, Michigan State University.

The nomination packet must include the following:

1. Statement describing the nominee’s professional journalism career and explaining why the nominee should be named to the Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame, citing examples according to the criteria on the website. Of particular interest to the committee are examples of how the nominee, as a journalist, has personally impacted and influenced great journalism in Michigan.

2. Support materials composed of 5 to 10 testimonial letters supporting the statement; the nominee’s resume; 5 to 10 examples of the nominee’s journalistic work; and other evidence of merit, such as anecdotes that address selection criteria, if desired.

3. A 400 words essay summarizing the nominee’s journalism career.

A nomination must include clips, photos, video, audio, online or other samples documenting a nominee’s work as a journalist and demonstrating impact in Michigan journalism. All materials remain the property of the Hall of Fame and become part of its historical record.

The Hall of Fame Committee is composed of representatives of the co-sponsors, which are non-profit journalism organizations in Michigan.

EAST LANSING, MI –New members will be inducted into the Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame and a Special Recognition Award given on April 13 at the James B. Henry Center for Executive Development at Michigan State University.
Inductees are journalism innovator Bill McGraw; journalist and educator Charles Eisendrath; business reporter Jennifer Moore; investigative reporter Ken Kolker; broadcast journalist Cheryl Chodun; prep sports reporter Mick McCabe; and reporter and educator William Serrin. The Michigan Hall of Fame Committee will also give a Special Recognition Award to association executive Edward Deeb for his sustained contributions to Michigan journalism.

Since 1985, the Hall of Fame has distinguished journalists who have advanced the legacy of a free and responsible press and who have influenced Michigan journalism. The Special Recognition Award distinguishes individuals who have made sustained and significant contributions and are held in high esteem for their role and support of journalism in Michigan.

The Hall of Fame Class of 2014 will be honored at the Hall of Fame banquet on April 13, beginning with a 5 p.m. reception. Dinner and the induction ceremony will follow at 6 p.m. The deadline for early reservations is March 30.
